The United States has received thousands of Sudanese refugees following several decades of conflict in Sudan and South Sudan. A troubled peace was established in 2018, but violence among communities has remained widespread and the rule of law weak. AFRECS is committed to bridge building among the various ethnic groups in the diaspora with the intent of demonstrating unity to their war weary homeland. Three national conferences in the US have opened doors to greater solidarity within the American Sudanese community. We serve as allies and supporters to community leaders in the U.S. and Canada who take initiatives to heal new hurt and overcome old suspicions.
